There's new data out (flew under my radar due to Holy Week & Easter) from PRRI about religious change in the U.S.
A few notes on what jumped out to me:
- The only group that grew from 2013 to 2023 was unaffiliated people (see graphic).
- The most common reason for leaving was that a person "stopped believing" (67%); second most common reason was disagreement with negative teachings about LGBTQ+ people (47%); third most was "my family was never that religious growing up" (41%).
- Only 9% of unaffiliated people say that they're "looking for a religion that would be right for me."
More tomorrow via a nice podcast discussion that was what put the new report on my radar in the first place.
