Training Spaces: Nonprofit Tech for Good
Another oldie but goodie today. This site was recommended to me by an experienced church comms pro when I started in this work twelve years ago. I recently re-activated my free subscription to Nonprofit Tech for Good, and I've found it to be as useful as ever.
Don't let the simple site design fool you. You get both curated resources culled from legit outlets as well as originals from editor-in-chief Heather Mansfield and other experienced contributors. Recently, I've enjoyed links to perennial favorites like current analyses of effective times to publish via various tools and platforms and links to recent research reports.
In a time when the value of search has been so diminished by the SEO arms race, it's so great to lean on a trusted expert who can get you to the high quality, current research and practices literature.
I haven't done one of their webinars in a long while, and I don't know a ton about the certificate programs beyond the sturdy marketing materials. But they're definitely on a short list of places where I'd consider spending real money for training.
Most importantly, frankly, I'm finding that this outlet is passing my AI test as well. It's a pretty low bar: I don't want AI to be presented as a panacea, but I'd like to see it engaged in a thoughtful, open-minded way. Maybe a soapbox items, but I definitely want to see some awareness of ways that runaway AI junk content is impoverishing the quality of the Web. This platform passes that test with ease and insight.
Honestly, this is one of those sites you can subscribe to and get reliably smarter every week without a ton of effort. Same as it ever was. I regret pressing pause whenever I did, and I'm glad to be back now.
